ClickFunnels Review – My Honest Take (Pros & Cons)

If you want to get more customers and subscribers or increase your sales then chances are you need a sales funnel.

Maybe you’re already using sales funnel software, but you’re now looking around for an alternative that is easier to use and converts better.

There are a lot of reviews out there on ClickFunnels that have been written by people who only promote the product as an affiliate, but haven’t actually used it themselves.

I have been using this software in my business for a while, so in this ClickFunnels review, I’m going to give you an honest take on this sales funnel builder and let you know what I really think of it.

What Is ClickFunnels?

ClickFunnels launched in 2014 and is now a massively popular brand.

The company has had tremendous success in becoming a multi-million dollar-a-year business in just a few short years. The owner, Russell Brunson did this impressively with no venture capital!

So, what is ClickFunnels? ClickFunnels is software that helps you build landing pages and sales funnels.

By using the page builder you can:

• Build all kinds of sales funnels
• Increase your ROI with upsells, down-sells, order bumps, and one-time offers
• Create squeeze pages
• Create landing pages
• Build a membership site
• Promote webinars

If you’re a ClickFunnels Platinum user (the top-level account), then you get a few additional ClickFunnels features to use.

In particular, you get access to the BackPack feature, which allows you to create your own affiliate programs.

If you’re on the Platinum account then you can also replace your third-party autoresponder with ClickFunnels’ very own Follow-Up Funnels if you wish.

Besides these additional two features, there are also several other nice benefits you get with each account, which I’ll cover in detail in this article.

ClickFunnels is currently the leading landing page and sales funnel builder out there, and one of the most popular marketing tools

At the time of writing this ClickFunnels review, there are just over 111,000 people who use this marketing software for their online business.

Who Is ClickFunnels For?

ClickFunnels is for anyone who is either wanting to generate more leads online or who wants to sell a product or a service.

The majority of people use this marketing software to sell their own products and services online.

However, the cool thing is you don’t actually even need your own product to sell. This is because you can use this tool to build an online business promoting other people’s products as an affiliate. Many people also use ClickFunnels to promote an MLM opportunity.

That’s pretty impressive!

As a way of publicizing this fact as much as possible, the company showcases these entrepreneurs’ success stories in their 2 Comma Club. This is basically the exclusive club that you will gain access to once you also achieve $1,000,000 in revenue through a single sales funnel.

If you choose to work with ClickFunnels as your main marketing tool then there are only really two pricing tiers to consider – Standard and Platinum.

The third plan is very expensive and is really only appropriate for large organizations.

Who Owns ClickFunnels?

ClickFunnels is owned by the parent company, Etison LLC, which is ultimately owned by the famous marketer, Russell Brunson.

Russell Brunson has been in the game for a long time and has made a fortune selling info products in various markets.

Russell is now best known for his contribution to the digital marketing world through his training courses and, of course, for giving birth to ClickFunnels.

Funnels are a core part of most online businesses and can help tremendously to improve conversion rates.

Without a tool like ClickFunnels, you would need to integrate a number of different software products in order to have a working sales funnel.

That’s a real headache, and it can also get really expensive doing things that way round!

Russell said he first created ClickFunnels to solve this issue in his own business. However, once he saw the potential of it, ClickFunnels then became the business!

Before we get into the details of all the ClickFunnels features, here’s a high-level overview of the ClickFunnels pros and cons:

ClickFunnels Review: The Features

Now let’s take a look at all the features you get with ClickFunnels. Bear in mind, not all of the ClickFunnels features are available on all of the pricing plans (see ClickFunnels pricing, below), but I will explain all that in this article.

Landing Page and Funnel Builder

This is ClickFunnels’ core offering – They have one of the best landing page and funnel builders on the market.

You can use it to quickly build sales funnels from scratch or modify one of the many pre-existing funnels ClickFunnels offers.

The drag and drop builder is easy to use and allows you to create any kind of marketing funnels or landing pages you want.

The ClickFunnels page builder comes complete with the ability to add all the necessary pages you will need to have in a working sales funnel, including:

• Landing pages
• Squeeze pages
• Upsell pages
• Downsell pages
• Order forms
• Thank you pages
• Webinar pages

Using ClickFunnels, you can have your sales funnels selling physical and digital products, and services, promote affiliate marketing offers, selling your online courses, and building membership sites.

Another popular reason to use ClickFunnels is to use it to build a lead funnel and grow your customer list. ClickFunnels has many awesome, high-converting lead funnel templates that have already been pre-designed for you.

You can simply insert your lead magnet into one of the templates, make a few tweaks to your headline, hook up your autoresponder and you’re pretty much ready to start collecting new subscribers and customers.

If you prefer to build your own sales funnels from scratch then you can do that too.

Funnel Templates

ClickFunnels provides you with all kinds of ready-made funnel templates to use. These templates have been designed by folks who are pros at building funnels. You can use them as-is, or edit them to your heart’s content.

The templates area is broken down into categories. Then, each category has a load of templates that you can choose from. You can pick the one you want and change anything from the text to images, to the colors and even the overall design.

Membership Sites

One of my favorite ClickFunnels features is the membership site builder. If you run online courses where people need to access a member’s area to watch your videos then this will be a handy feature for you.

While ClickFunnels membership sites are easy to build, and you can customize them to look pretty cool, they’re not the absolute apex on the market.

If a membership funnel is going to be the center of your business then you might want to consider using something like Kajabi.

It’s like ClickFunnels, but with a better membership site builder. However, bear in mind that the ClickFunnels page builder is far superior to Kajabi’s. You will be able to build much better sales funnels with ClickFunnels.

Main ClickFunnels membership site advantage: You can integrate it directly with your marketing funnel. ClickFunnels is the market leader when it comes to sales funnels. They’re super-easy to use, and their templates are high-converting.

Main ClickFunnels membership site disadvantage: You’ll also need to pay for 3rd party video hosting solution like Vimeo or Wistea to host your videos, then embed them inside your member’s area.

While this is a solution, it will probably cost you around an extra $99 per month to use Vimeo or Wistea.

Autoresponder (a.k.a Follow-up Funnels)

ClickFunnels has its own built-in autoresponder, which is called Follow-up funnels. Email marketing is such a core part of any successful online business that it makes sense that ClickFunnels include this feature.

However, the disappointing thing is that Follow-up Funnels is only available to you if you’re a Platinum user.

While Follow-up Funnels is good, it’s certainly not the best email marketing tool out there.

Follow-up funnels will give you quite good automation features and decent analytics on your customers. However, there are a lot of other email marketing tools online that are much better, and most, if not all of them will integrate with ClickFunnels, so this isn’t really a big deal.

Hint: GetResponse and Aweber are great options to choose from that are also very affordable.

Webinars

If you run a regular webinar as part of your marketing and sales process, then ClickFunnels can make this process much easier for you.

ClickFunnels comes with its own autoresponder (Follow-up Funnels) built into the system, so you can connect it directly to your sales funnel, and host your webinar inside the funnel itself.

While the webinar feature is available on all ClickFunnels plans, you’ll need to be on the Platinum plan if you want to use the Follow-up Funnels autoresponder.

Alternatively, if you’re on the Standard plan then you can very easily integrate a 3rd party autoresponder like GetResponse or Aweber with ClickFunnels, and this problem is solved.

Main ClickFunnels webinar advantage: Host your webinars inside your sales funnel, or, since you also have membership sites built into ClickFunnels, your members can be invited to watch live webinars inside your member’s area.

Main ClickFunnels webinar disadvantage: You’ll need to use a 3rd party webinar streaming service like Zoom or WebinarJam and integrate it with your sales funnel. This feature also only works for live webinars, not auto-webinars.

Affiliate Management Dashboard (a.k.a BackPack)

Besides Follow-up Funnels, the BackBack feature is the other ClickFunnels feature that is only available to Platinum users.

With BackPack, you can use it to create your own affiliate programs for your products. Then, you can recruit an army of affiliates to go out and promote your products for you. This is a great marketing strategy to use and is applicable to most online business models.

Inside the affiliate dashboard, you can manage your affiliates, set commission rates, track their sales, and provide them with affiliate tools to use.

While the BackPack software is quite good, it is also fairly basic. If creating a program for your products is a central part of your business and then BackPack will do the job for sure, but it’s not the best option out there.

A/B Testing

When it comes to your sales funnel, knowing exactly what’s working for you and what is not, is critical to the success of your online business.

ClickFunnels has a cool A/B testing feature built into their software. It allows you to pinpoint exactly what it is that is either hurting or enhancing your funnels’ success.

Once you’ve built your sales funnel you can use the A/B testing feature to duplicate your funnel, and then make small changes to the duplicated funnel. For example, you might only want to test the headline.

In this case, you can use one headling in funnel A, and a different headling in funnel B.

ClickFunnels will then allow you to send an even amount of traffic to both A and B landing pages over time. You can then measure the stats of each of the landing pages to see which one converts the best.

You can repeat this process for different aspects of your funnel too, such as the button color, size, and position, the font size, color theme, and even the overall layout of your sales funnel. All these things may have an impact on how well your funnel is converting.

When A/B testing, I recommend you only test one feature at a time, otherwise you will not know exactly which element is making the difference for you.

FunnelFlix

FunnelFlix is a cool, new feature that ClickFunnels added to their offering back at the end of 2019. It’s basically Netflix, but for marketers.

The layout is similar to Netflix, hence the name, but instead of movies and TV shows, FunnelFlix is full of training courses that can help you grow your business.

Of course, since Russell Brunson is the owner of ClickFunnels, all of his popular training courses can be found inside of FunnelFlix.

However, it’s not just Russell’s courses that are in there.

FunnelFlix also has courses and training videos from highly successful entrepreneurs and business leaders including Tony Robbins, John Reese, Jay Abraham, Frank Kern, and many more.

It’s actually a pretty awesome library of marketing and entrepreneurial training. If you’re an internet marketing course junkie like me then you’ll love getting inside of FunnelFlix.

It’s kinda like being a 5-year old that’s been left in charge of a candy store! The only drawback though is that not all the training courses are available on every plan.

If you’re on the standard plan then you’ll have a nice selection of training to get you started. However, you’ll need to upgrade to ClickFunnels Platinum to unlock all the courses.

Since a lot of these courses sell for hundreds, and even thousands of dollars each, I know some people who have upgraded to the Platinum plan for a few months to binge-watch all the content they were interested in.

Then, they just downgraded back to the ClickFunnels Standard plan afterward because they didn’t need any of the extra features that come with Platinum.

What I Like About ClickFunnels

While ClickFunnels is not perfect, there’s a lot to like about it.

The ease of use of this tool makes it a great choice for people who are new to starting an online business, or for those entrepreneurs who want a no-nonsense tool that can get the job done quickly.

Besides this, here are the things I really like about ClickFunnels.

Share Funnels

Share funnels are an ingenious addition to the ClickFunnels suite. This feature allows you to share an entire sales funnel with another user simply by sending them a unique link to the template.

When the other user clicks on the share funnel link, the funnel template will be automatically pulled into their account.

Sounds cool, but why is this useful?

Here are some ideas on how you can use this feature:

1. You build sales funnels for clients and sell them the finished product. Similar to building a website, except you’d build the funnel in your own account, show it to them once it’s finished, and then send them the share funnel link once they have paid you for the sales funnel. If they don’t yet have a ClickFunnels account then you can also get them to sign up through your affiliate link and earn an additional monthly commission on their account too.
2. You are in an MLM opportunity and you use sales funnels to generate leads, recruit new members, and sell your products. You can share your funnel with your team members so they can be successful too.
3. You promote ClickFunnels as an affiliate and one strategy you use is to build sales funnels for different purposes and then offer to give the funnels to people for free in exchange for signing up to ClickFunnels through your affiliate link.

These are just some ideas, but there are a lot more ways in which you can use this cool feature.

Ease of Use

One of the biggest reasons ClickFunnels is popular is because it’s just so damn easy to use. The drag and drop page builder is fast and fun to work with.

Having a huge library of sales funnel templates and landing pages that have already been designed for you also makes it super-quick to get your funnel set up and ready to rock.

Lots of Good Page Elements

When I first started using the page builder I was really impressed by the range of elements that are available in the drag and drop editor.

It has more or less everything you will need to build great-looking and high-converting landing pages and sales funnels.

Great Affiliate Program

ClickFunnels has one of the best programs in the online marketing space. They have great products that convert really well, and often have special ClickFunnels offers that you can promote to earn extra commissions.

This program also has some high-paying affiliate products. When promoting the ClickFunnels software itself, you will earn recurring commissions on a monthly basis for everyone who signs up for an account through your link, and for as long as they choose to use the software.

Funnel Fridays

If you need inspiration or instruction to design a specific funnel then Russell Brunson and Jim Edwards do a live webinar every Friday called Funnel Fridays.

Each Friday they show you how to build a different type of funnel, and show you live how to set it up and create your copy.

Weekly Peer Review Hack-a-Thons

Building landing pages and sales funnels that convert is both a skill and an art that takes time to master. While a lot of people have success right out of the gate by just using the free templates that are available, others need a more advanced funnel design.

If you need extra help then you can hop onto one of the free weekly Hack-a-thons to get a few expert funnel builders to look over your funnel. They’ll suggest tweaks you can make to your funnel to help you improve your design and conversion rate.

This is great, but the downside is that you’ll also need to be a Platinum user to attend. If you’re a Standard user then don’t worry, you can always upgrade to Platinum for a month to get a pro set of eyeballs on your funnel, and then just downgrade back to the Standard plan the next month.

If you’re on the Standard plan then think of it this way – you’re currently paying $97 per month. ClickFunnels Platinum costs $297 per month. You’ll pay an extra $200 to upgrade for a month and get advice from someone who’s a professional at building funnels.

That’s a great deal!

Membership Sites Are Easy To Build

When I first built a membership site using ClickFunnels I was surprised at how easy it is to set up.

You can also customize your landing page with the drag and drop editor, and also spruce up your member’s area and make them look really cool.

What I Don’t Like About ClickFunnels

Resource Limits

When you first sign up for an account you’ll probably first go for the Standard plan, unless you already know that you need the extra features and resources that come with the Platinum plan.

However, on the Standard Plan, you’re limited to only 3 custom domains, 20 funnels, and up to 100 pages. While this is plenty for a lot of businesses, some entrepreneurs who run multiple businesses will probably want to upgrade their plans at some point.

It’s Quite Pricey

While ClickFunnels does give you a lot for your money, it’s still quite pricey.

On the one hand, ClickFunnels can save you a lot of time building your business, and we all know that time = money. However, $97 per month for the basic plan is quite a lot, especially if you’re just starting out.

If, however, you’re making regular online sales through your marketing funnel then you will find that the ease of use and the time saved far out weights the cost of using ClickFunnels.

ClickFunnels Pricing

As the platform has evolved, ClickFunnels have changed the price over the years.

In the early days, it was possible to use ClickFunnels for $19 per month. However, this basic plan is no longer available.

ClickFunnels has three pricing plans, which start at $97 per month for the Standard plan. The next account level up is the Platinum plan which costs $297.

Lastly, there is the Two Comma Club X plan at $2,497 per month. Don’t worry, in most cases, you won’t need to use this last plan unless you’re a multi-million dollar company, in which case you’d be able to comfortably afford it anyway.

While these plans may sound expensive, it’s worth bearing in mind that ClickFunnels has a range of built-in features that would cost you a lot of money if you were to pay for them separately through several different providers.

If you’re not quite sold on ClickFunnels, then don’t worry! There are several alternatives available that offer similar features.

Here are the top running competitors:

SamCart

One of the best alternatives to ClickFunnels is SamCart. If you’re a creator or an ecom seller, then SamCart will be a great fit for you.

SamCart has one of the best optimized checkout experiences out there. Not only does it provide a great experience for your customers, it can also increase your sales by as much as 30%.

That’s a pretty big deal!

SamCart’s comprehensive checkout platform specializes in maximizing sales of both digital and physical products. If you want to get the most out of selling your own products online, then you can’t go far wrong by leveraging SamCart’s highly optimized checkout process and conversion-focused tools.

SamCart offers a wide range of features, many of which are comparable with ClickFunnels. These include a landing page and funnel builder, an online course app, an affiliate program manager feature, and conversion features like order bumps, one-click upsells, and beat cross-selling feature.

SamCart also provides decent analytics. This is great because the platform enables you to hone in on exactly what’s working in your business so you can scale.

SamCart also integrates with many popular tools out there including all the popular email marketing platforms. You also have a variety of options for payment gateways when using SamCart including PayPal, Stripe and ApplePay, ensuring a seamless and secure checkout experience for your customers.

Builderall

If you’re looking for a more complete all-in-one platform, then Builderall is also worth a look.

Builderall is by far the most complete marketing platform out there. It can do everything ClickFunnels can do, plus it has a ton more tools. That said, it’s likely that you won’t need all those tools.

From testing out the platform myself, I’d say that their landing page and funnel builder, the website builder, the webinar feature, and the chatbots are their strongest feature. Personally, I did also like their heatmap feature since I could integrate it with my WordPress website, which is pretty neat. That said, it did freeze on my a couple of times, but to be fair to Buildrall, that could have been due to my internet connection.

Another stand out feature of Builderall is that you can also use it to build and host fully functional WordPress websites. Since more than 35% of websites are built on WordPress this is a big deal. All of Builderall’s other features also integrate with WordPress too. So, if you currently have a business that revolves around a WordPress website, then choosing Builderall might be the best bet for you.

Similar to ClickFunnels 2.0, you can also use the Builderall platform to build full blown ecommerce sites if that’s your bag. And, of course, you also get all the other features like the funnel builder, online courses, a built-in email marketing platform, and free video hosting.

For such a large range of features, Builderall is also priced very reasonably too.

ClickFunnels FAQ’s

Inevitably, you will still probably have a load more questions even after reading this ClickFunnels review. Here are the most commonly asked questions about this marketing and sales funnel software product.

What Is ClickFunnels Customer Support Like?

In my opinion, ClickFunnels support is very poor. They used to have live chat, but they took that away. Unless you’re paying for the 2 Comma Club X plan then you can only reach them via email.

While I personally have always received a reply from support when I needed it, I often had to wait several hours, and sometimes up to 24 hours for a reply.

If you want phone support then it’s only available on the 2 Comma Club X plan, which is out of the price range of most people.

Can I Use Custom Domains?

Yes, you can use up to 3 custom domains on the standard plan, and up to 20 on the Platinum plan.

Is ClickFunnels Better Than Shopify?

This depends on how you’re running your eCommerce business. If you only sell one or a few products in your store then ClickFunnels can help you improve your conversions considerably.

Are People Making Money With The ClickFunnels Affiliate Program?

Yes, most of the ClickFunnels products, including the software itself convert very well. I have been making money consistently myself every month promoting ClickFunnels since 2019.

There are also many highly successful affiliates in the ClickFunnels Avengers (affiliate) group who make a full-time income promoting ClickFunnels.

However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that you will too. Your success will largely depend on your work ethic and skill level as an affiliate.

In my opinion, a great program for beginner affiliates, as well as those who are more experienced.

Do I Need Marketing Experience To Use ClickFunnels?

No, you don’t need marketing experience to use the ClickFunnels marketing software. While there is a learning curve, it’s easy to use and there are a ton of training videos on YouTube.

ClickFunnels also provides its own training videos too. If you need more marketing training then you will also benefit from the marketing courses inside of FunnelFlix.

Do I Need My Own Product To Use ClickFunnels?

No. If you don’t have your own product or service to sell then you can use this online marketing tool to promote affiliate products.

Is ClickFunnels a Scam or Legit?

ClickFunnels is a legit software company owned and operated by Etison LLC. ClickFunnels is one of the most respected funnels and landing page builders in the industry and is currently the market leader.

Is There Any ClickFunnels Training?

Yes, ClickFunnels provide free training videos and docs on how to use the software. There are also a ton of free training videos on YouTube.

For marketing training, you will get access to a number of courses inside of FunnelFlix. One of the best courses to go through to get up and running quickly with ClickFunnels is the One Funnel Away Challenge.

Yes, you can get ClickFunnels for free, but only for 14 days on the free trial. After this time you will have to upgrade to a paid account.

Do I Need a Website To Use ClickFunnels?

No, you do not need a website to work with ClickFunnels. You can create a landing page and send traffic directly to it without needing a website. The page builder makes it very easy for you to create beautiful-looking landing pages that convert well. You can then run traffic directly to your landing pages.

What ClickFunnels awards can you win?

Final Thoughts

As you can see from my ClickFunnels review, this sales funnel and landing page builder has quite a few features that can help you to make more sales and grow your business quickly online. ClickFunnels is used by both small businesses and large organizations.

So, is ClickFunnels worth the money?

On the one hand, it can save you quite a bit of money otherwise needing to use additional 3rd party software tools. However, the price point for the basic plan is quite high for small businesses and solopreneurs.

Having said that though, once you make your first break-even funnel where ClickFunnels isn’t actually costing you anything to use anymore then it’s just a matter of tweaking your sales funnel until you’re profitable. Then rinse and repeat as you need!
